“Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof…”
Hello from the Phoenix airport!
Vacation is officially underway and I’m feeling, well…happy. I don’t think it hit me until Saturday afternoon just how badly I needed this little trip. I had just gotten off work and it was a super busy Saturday, per usual, I was driving to meet up with some friends for dinner and it just hit me. All of a sudden, it was like all of my stress lifted and I felt so free. I was actually got little overcome with emotion. I really think I’ve been on autopilot since before the holidays dealing with various stressors. This week of relaxation has been a long time coming.
I kicked off my vacation (and birthday!) week with dinner at Four Peaks with a couple of my girl friends (also old coworkers). I ordered an oatmeal stout (I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a BEER – I must have been feeling relaxed ) to complement my turkey burger. For dessert, the three of us split a towering order of stoutamisu, a brewery spin on the classic Italian dessert.
It was pretty epic.
Yesterday was spent mostly packing and getting things in order to leave town. I received a pretty card in the mail from my big sis to kick off my bday celebration.
(my actual birthday is this Thurs)
I also took a nice long run in my new running shoes. <3
The dogs and I spent the evening at my parents house for dinner and Castle (on DVR). We also checked out the season premiere of ‘Resurrection.’ Did anyone else watch? Creepy…..
Currently, I’m just hanging out in Starbucks waiting for my flight. Finally got my hands on a vanilla macchiato – delish! I’ve got a good hour and a half to do a little reading before we board.
Quick funny (well, almost not) story before I go:
So, I snag an empty table at the airport Starbucks, unload all of my stuff while I’m waiting on my drink and quickly search for my iPhone to check the time. Only, I can’t find my phone ANYWHERE. It was just in my hand in line. Brief panic. I run to ask the barista if he’s seen it and the convo goes like this:
Me: “Hey have you seen an iPhone anywhere by chance?”
(Barista says nothing and gives me a strange look.)
I elaborate, “I literally just had it. It’s pink….?”
(Blank stare. Crickets.)
Me: “So, no then…?”
Luckily, a second barista notices my worried expression and asks what I’m looking for, so I explain to her that I lost my phone and I just had it, etc. and has anyone possibly seen it or turned it in? At this point, the first barista chimes in finally and says, loudly, “Oh my god, I thought you said you were looking for your KNIFE.” In front of the whole Starbucks line. At the airport. Um, no….but let’s squelch that rumor quite quickly please.
PS – I proceeded to find my phone in a secret pocket of my new travel bag. Yeah…..
See you from Denver!
